Aboriginal-Led Advice Grounded in Lived Experience

Violet and Retta provides Aboriginal-led advisory services that support organisations to work ethically, respectfully, and effectively in relation to Aboriginal peoples, communities, and knowledges.

Our advisory work is grounded in lived experience and reflective practice, and is informed by extensive experience across health, wellbeing, education, research, and community-led contexts. We work alongside organisations to strengthen decision-making, guide culturally safe approaches, and support accountable, respectful practice at both strategic and operational levels.

We provide advice on:

  • Supporting respectful engagement, relationship-building, and culturally safe practice.

  • Dr Lana Leslie has worked with ten organisations on the development of their RAPS.

  • Advising on culturally informed planning, delivery, and evaluation to ensure initiatives are ethical, relevant, and community-centred.

  • Cultural wellbeing programs, Aboriginal leadership, workshops, gatherings.

  • Guidance on culturally safe research design, ethics, community engagement, and interpretation of findings.

  • Supporting organisations to embed Aboriginal perspectives, cultural capability, and accountability into strategic planning and governance frameworks.

  • Providing culturally informed advice for day-to-day practice, workforce support, and service delivery.

How we work:

Our advisory approach is relational, reflective, and strengths-based. We do not offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we take time to understand your context, responsibilities, and challenges, and provide advice that is practical, culturally grounded, and aligned with your organisation’s values and obligations.

Advice may be delivered through:

  • One-off consultations

  • Ongoing advisory partnerships

  • Integration with cultural supervision or training

  • Support during project design, delivery, or review

Why does Aboriginal advice matter?

Engaging Aboriginal-led advisory support helps organisations move beyond compliance toward genuine cultural capability, safer practice, and stronger relationships. Our work supports organisations to engage with Aboriginal peoples in ways that are culturally safe, informed, and grounded in trust and respect.
